Agnes Pelton is a very well-listed artist born in
1881 in Germany to American parents, and raised in France and Switzerland.
She graduated from the Pratt Institute in 1900 and
painted traditional portraits and representational art until 1925 when she
turned to more abstract subjects.
She moved to Cathedral City, California in 1931 and
painted luminous desert landscapes. She was a member of the National Academy
of Women Painters and Sculptors and the Transcendental Painting Group of
Taos, New Mexico. She died in 1961.
