Andre Montpellier lived his whole life in the
Rousillion Region Provence of France where he became known for his Fauvist
paintings of the local landscape.
In 1942 a series of twelve stone lithographs were
printed by Atelier Mourlot, a legendary lithographer who had collaborated
with Toulouse-Lautrec, Chagall and Picasso. The bulk of the series were not
distributed until after the artist's death in 1967, and a large number of
them perished in a fire as well.
