A listed Modernist painter born in Austria in 1908, he was trained at the School of Fine Art in Berlin. Michael Gottlieb lived most of his life in Paris where he exhibited from 1948 until the late 1980's. He was known for his portraits, still life, and purely abstract paintings. His works are in collections in Europe, the United States and Israel. He died in 1998.
