A well-listed California painter, Edgar Louis Ewing is known for his modern figural work, landscapes, still life, and marine scenes.

He was born in Hartington, Nebraska in 1913, and moved to Chicago where he trained at the Art Institute and was given an art fellowship to study abroad in Europe.

He later moved to California and became an important figure on the art scene. His work was exhibited widely and to much critical acclaim. He died in 2006.
