Born in Budapest in 1904, Francis de Erdely was a well-listed California
painter and sculptor.
de Erdely trained at the Royal Academy of Art in Budapest, the Royal
Academy of Fine Art in Madrid, Spain, and at the Sorbonne in Paris, France.
In 1944 he moved to Los Angeles, California and became the dean of the
Pasadena Art Institute, then held other teaching positions for the rest of
his life.
His work was exhibited widely in well-respected venues and are in several
museum collections including the DeYoung Museum, the Oakland Museum, and the
Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He died in 1959.
