A well-listed California
Impressionist painter and muralist, Gene Frances McComas was born in 1886 in San
Francisco. She studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland,
California under Xavier Martinez.
She met Frances John McComas at
Martinez' studio, and they married in 1917. The artistic duo settled in Pebble
Beach on the Monterey Peninsula, and traveled extensively. Best known as a
landscape artist, Gene's works have been exhibited at Gumps, the DeYoung Museum,
the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, New York, the Oakland Museum and the
Pasadena Art Institute.
She died in 1982. Her artwork has
sold at auction for as much as $2300.00. This set of four is sold individually.
