A well-known French Fauvist painter born in 1871,
George Rouault studied under Gustave Moreau at the Ecole des Beaux Artes in
Paris. George Rouault was influenced medieval art, and painted many
religious subjects, portraits and nudes.
His art dealer Ambroise Vollard encouraged him to
concentrate on graphic art between 1917 and the late 1920's. He died in
1958.
