Jules Engel was a well-known painter, sculptor, filmmaker, graphic
artist, animator and teacher.
Born in 1909 in Budapest, Hungary, he immigrated to
Chicago, Illinois at the age of thirteen, but eventually moved to Hollywood,
California where he studied at the Chouinard Art Institute in downtown Los
Angeles. He eventually landed a job with the Walt Disney studios, and was
one of the animators for Fantasia and Bambi.
A decided Modernist when it came to art, he was
prolific in oil paintings, lithographs, and other mediums. He died in 2003.
