A well listed painter, illustrator and printmaker
Julius Moessel was born in Furth, Germany in 1872, and was best known for
his detailed Surrealistic paintings of animal & zoological subjects,
portraits, birds and figural paintings. He relocated to Chicago, Illinois in
1932.
He often painted cover
illustrations for The Saturday Evening Post and exhibited his work at
the Art Institute of Chicago, the Corcoran Gallery Biennial, and the
Pennsylvania Academy.
His work is in the permanent
collection of the Chicago Union League Club. He died in 1960.
