Michio Takayama is a well
known Taos, New Mexico painter known for his abstract and
semi-abstract subject matters.
Born in turn of the Century
rural Japan in 1903, he was trained to carry on in the
family business of banking. At the risk of being disowned by
his family, he took up art and trained with Shin Kurihara.
He and his wife relocated to
Los Angeles, California in the 1950's, and later moved to
Taos where he spent the rest of his life. He died in 1994.
His paintings are in many
museum collections.
