A well-listed painter born in 1927 in Freeport, Illinois, Robert Knipschild studied at the UNiversity of Wisconsin and the Cranbrook Academy of Art where he worked under Zoltan Sepeshy.

His works have been exhibited at many museums including the Boston Museum, Whitney, the Museum of Modern Art, the Corcoran, and the DeYoung Museum. Nelson Rockefeller had this artist's work in his collections. He died in 2004.
