Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Sam Stetson is listed as an active painter during the New Deal Works Progress Administration. Declared a prodigy, he was educated at the Chicago Art Institute and started teaching at the age of eighteen.

He traveled widely, and was tutored by Andre Hote, Ferdinand Leger, and Hans Hoffman. His work has appeared in countless shows and exhibitions.
