Born in Hungary in 1882,
listed California painter William Darling studied art at the Royal Academy
of Budapest, and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.
In 1910 he came to the
United States and became a portrait painter in New York. After World War II,
he relocated to California and lived in Palm Springs and Laguna Beach where
he painted landscapes of the local terrain.
This painting is believed
to be one of the earliest he painted of the local Desert scenery. He died in
1963.
