Colin Garland is one of the foremost contemporary artists from Jamaica
whose Surreal paintings are in the National Gallery of Jamaica.
Born to a working class family in Sydney, Australia in
1935, Colin Garland took an interest in art at a very young age and attended
the National School of Art then pursued additional studied in London,
England. Colin Garland moved to Jamaica in 1962, the year of the country's
independence, and secured a teaching position at the Jamaica School of Art.
He also worked within the theater community and did set
design for the National Dance Theater Company. For the remainder of his life
he exhibited paintings both nationally and internationally. He died in 2007.
